Howdy - I found you through the Wordpress writing tag.

I love the idea of putting a piece of artwork in front of a mirror to get a new perspective! I'm going to try that with my next painting.

As for writing, I've found that a critique group is helpful in offering new perspectives... I'm relatively new to working with a critique group, but since many of the members come from different genres, things stand out for them that I gloss right over in reading my own work.

Reading out loud helps me... and this may sound totally silly, but for some reason, when I put a piece of writing in an email or an envelope and send it, suddenly when I reread it five minutes later, all the mistakes glare at me like beacons! So now, I've learned to trick myself by trial-run-emailing... I send a finished piece of work out to myself at one of my other email addresses, and then go back and look at it again a minute later.

Now that I think about it... I suppose that sounds a little neurotic. :O hmm.....

Good luck with your writing,
JLB

First time I've come across a suggestion such as this but it sounds workable. I'll try it out the next time. Thank you for the tip. Oh, and I'm one of those who'll try to avoid seeing myself on video, or hearing myself on tape, etc...living in denial I guess, or fearing the worst. LoL.
